Romantic Things to do for Couples in Dublin this Valentine's Day

5th Feb 2025

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and Dublin is the perfect city for lovers to enjoy a romantic getaway. Whether you're planning to celebrate with a classic dinner date, a unique activity, or something a little off the beaten path, Dublin has something for everyone. This article will guide you through a range of romantic things to do for couples, so you can find the perfect plan for your Valentine's Day weekend in the Irish capital.

The Shrine of St Valentine

Okay, so a shrine might not be the first thing that pops into your mind when thinking of a romantic date, but hear us out. Dublin is home to the actual relics of St. Valentine himself, so if you're visiting the city for Valentine's Day, it's too good of an opportunity to miss. You can leave a love letter, some flowers, or just take a moment to soak in the history of one of the most famous saints associated with love.

You can find the Shrine of St Valentine in the heart of the city centre at Whitefriar Street Church. Getting there is easy with our 700 service from Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre, just exit at Kildare Street where it is then less than a 15 minute walk to the church.

Trinity College

Once you've visited the Shrine of St Valentine, another must-see location if you and your partner are first-time visitors to Dublin is Trinity College. Most famous for the Book of Kells, but most recently recognised as the picturesque background to many scenes in Normal People.

If you're a fan of the book or show (and who isn't?), you'll appreciate the chance to follow in the footsteps of Marianne and Connell. It's one of the most romantic spots in the city, with cobbled paths, stunning architecture and lots of green space to wander hand-in-hand. Definitely a win for the literary and TV lovers out there!

Trinity College is only a 12 minute walk from the Shrine of St Valentine, or to get there directly, you can take the 700 or the 700X Aircoach service. Simply get off at the Dublin City Centre stop and take a short 5 minute walk to the College, easy!

Luttrellstown Castle

If you're visiting Dublin for Valentine's weekend as opposed to just the day, you might want to take a romantic trip outside of the city centre to Luttrellstown Castle. Built in the 15th century, this historic castle looks like it's come straight out of a fairytale and yes, we're talking about the very same castle where the Beckhams tied the knot.

On the 9th and 15th of February, they're hosting a 'Romantic Cities of The World' Valentine's Day Afternoon Tea. So if you're after a romantic activity to do away from the bustle of the city, this is the place to be.

To get to the castle, take the 700 or the 700X from Dublin Airport to Drumcondra, exit opposite the Rail Station where you can then take the train to Clonsilla.

Axe Club

Looking for something a bit different? How about a bit of friendly competition at the Axe Club? It's one of the most unique and fun things to do in Dublin for couples looking for an active (and slightly adrenaline-filled) experience. Channel your inner Viking and throw some axes at wooden targers while sharing a laugh with your date. Not your average Valentine's Day activity, but definitely one to remember.

Plus, the city centre location makes the Axe Club easy to get to. Exit the 700 or 700X at the Dublin City Centre, O'Connell St, RIU Gresham Hotel stop and take a 20 minute walk to the Axe Club.

Stella Cinema

Looking for a more classic date night vibe? Head to the Stella Cinema, an art deco cinema that takes your usual movie experience and turns it into something way more unique, intimate and romantic. Think plush seating, mood lighting and an in-house cocktail bar. Plus, there's a delicious restaurant onsite, so you can enjoy a full evening of entertainment.

To get to the Stella Cinema, take the 700 or 700X into the city centre, getting off at the Dublin City Centre, O'Connell St, RIU Gresham Hotel stop. Then make your way over to the Parnell LUAS (a 3 minute walk) to hop on board to Ranelagh.

The Odeon

If you'd rather skip the movie and just focus on dinner, The Odeon restaurant (not to be confused with the movie theatre, ironically in this case, we know) is the perfect choice for a Valentine's Day dinner date, This city centre favourite is offering a 5-course Valentine's Day special, complete with prosecco and a VIP entry pass to their after-party at The Bourbon Bar upstairs.

The atmosphere is sophisticated, the food is incredible, and the after-party is the perfect way to keep the celebration going. What better way to treat yourselves to a memorable Valentine's night with your other half.

To get to The Odeon, exit at Leeson Street Upper on our 700 Dublin Airport - Dublin City Centre route, where it's then less than a 10 minute stroll to the restaurant.

Vintage Cocktail Club

If you're looking for a pre-dinner drink or fancy something a bit quieter than The Odeon's after party, the Vintage Cocktail Club is the perfect spot.

This award-winning speakeasy is tucked away in the heart of the city and offers a unique, intimate experience. Step inside, and you'll feel like you've been transported to another era with its stylish retro decor and expertly crafted cocktails - definitely a fun way to kick off or cap off your Valentine's celebrations.

Located in the Temple Bar district, Vintage Cocktail Club is an easy walking distance from any of our other suggestions for romantic things to do in Dublin. Or if this is your first stop for the evening as a couple, you can take our 700 or 700X service and exit at Dublin City Centre stop where it is then only a 7 minute walk.

Candlelight Valentine's Day Concert

Last but not least, we couldn't put a list of date ideas for couples together without mentioning the Candlelight Valentine's Day concert at St. Andrew's Church on February 14th. This enchanting concert is a chance to enjoy classical music by candlelight in one of Dublin's most iconic spots. If you're after a romantic and calming atmosphere, this concert offers the perfect backdrop to your Valentine's Day.

To get to the concert, take the 700 from Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre and exit at the Kildare Street stop, then take a romantic 20 minute stroll through the city.
